I really like the Sterilite 15 quart bins for storing smaller items both in the shop and around the house. They are small enough that I can easily find items in them, and not so large that things get lost in them. They are stackable, but I really hate having to move something to get to what’s under it. I came up with an idea for a storage rack that would allow instant access to several bins while taking up a minimal amount of floor space. I built one then and decided to build another and document this one.
The material list is pretty basic.
| Item | Size | Material | Quantity |
| Front Vertical | 71″ | 1/2″ x 1″ 16g rectangular tubing | 2 |
| Back Vertical | 71″ | 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ 16g rectangular tubing | 2 |
| Support Rail | 15 7/8″ | 1 1/2″ 1/8″ cold rolled flat bar | 20 |
| Top & Bottom Side | 15 7/8″ | 1/2″ x 1″ 16g rectangular tubing | 4 |
| Top & Bottom Front/Back | 11 1/8″ | 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ 16g rectangular tubing | 4 |
The first support needs to be 6 1/2″ from the bottom, so I use my Fireball Tool 6″ squares and 1/2″ spacers to get the proper location for the first support, then repeat each row using a 1″ spacer for the 7″ I need for the additional rows.

After that, it’s just repeat each row until we get to the top. The other side is a mirror image (NOT copy, ask me how I know) of this one.

The stem casters I used were 5/16-18, so I use the appropriate sized weld nuts and weld them into the bottoms of the 4 verticals.

Once each side was finished, I used some larger Fireball Tool squares to get everything squared up and ready to weld together.

Everything welded up and ready to go. Someday I’ll get around to painting or powder coating it, but not today.

The only thing left was to load it with bins. The bins slide into it easily and I can get to whatever I need quickly.

I still have to label a few of the bins, but I’ll go through them all first and make sure they have what they are supposed to have.
